Does Your Pucker Need A Pick-Me-Upper?
There are so many ways to rejuvenate the lips and around the mouth, without winding up with a trout pout! A great rule of thumb is if people are staring at your lips while they talk to you, then something isn’t quite right. Your lips are just one part of the face, and symmetry and proportion are needed to create a beautiful result. If one piece of your appearance is out of balance, then individuals will “notice” something is unnatural without even consciously knowing exactly what has been done. We at Oxford Medical Aesthetics prefer a natural approach to the lips.
So, what are your options if you want to enhance this extremely popular area of the face?
Juvederm Volbella
One of our favorite fillers, Juvederm Volbella, can soften lines around the mouth, aka “smoker’s lines” or “the barcode.” Volbella is super soft and has the consistency of maple syrup so that it won’t get lumpy or bumpy. When Volbella is used in the lips, it is often called a “baby lip plump” because it gives the lips a subtle plump and pulls lines out of the lips to smooth them and make them look hydrated. Almost as if they always have lip gloss on them.
Juvederm Ultra for Lips
Another way we can add zip to your lips is to outline the edge of the lips with Juvederm Ultra. It is a bit thicker in consistency and can pull those fine lines out and make the lip edge more distinct and highlight the shape of the lips. If this filler is added to the lip itself, it will give them a more robust fullness. Millennials like to call this look “juicy lips!” Again, proportion and balance are KEY!
Botox Lip Flip
Another popular treatment is the “lip flip,” which uses 2-4 units of Botox to relax the muscle just above the lip, so you see more of the upper lip without adding fullness. We always numb your lips with cream, so no need to fear pain. While the fillers mentioned above typically last a year, this treatment tends to last 2-3 months. These options are popular because results are quick, with little to no downtime.
Laser Peel Lip Treatments
If you were hoping for more permanent results to treat fine lines and wrinkles and have some time to heal, or maybe you have been wearing a mask lately, you may want to consider a laser peel to smooth away those lines for good. I use the analogy of “mowing the lawn” with the laser to smooth skin. Depending on the depth of the peel, you can expect 5-10 days of healing to see the best results.
Fractional Laser Treatments
Lastly, while on the subject of lasers and their incredible capabilities, we can add Profractional to your treatment. Profractional is like “aerating the lawn.” By adding tiny holes with the laser into the skin, collagen is stimulated in that area, and new skin grows up through them, giving way to a brighter, younger complexion, and it doesn’t add any time to your downtime if you do it in conjunction with the laser peel.
